Job Summary:
A Dentist at Gilgil Specialist Hospital will be responsible for providing comprehensive dental care to patients.
The key responsibility will be to diagnose and treat various oral health conditions, offer preventive dental
services, and educate patients about oral hygiene practices. You will play a crucial role in promoting oral health
and ensuring patients receive quality dental care. You will work under the supervision of a facility Administrator
and the lead medical officer.
Key Responsibilities:

Patient Care
  • Provide comprehensive dental care to patients of all ages, including preventive, diagnostic, and therapeutic services.
  • Provide comprehensive dental care to patients of all ages, including preventive, diagnostic, and

  • Examining patients, diagnosing dental conditions, and creating treatment plans.
  • Effectively managing patient appointments, maintaining schedules, and ensuring efficient workflow in
  • the clinic.
  • Provide compassionate care and establish a positive rapport with patients to promote their comfort and
  • satisfaction.

Dental Procedures
  • Perform a range of dental procedures to treat dental conditions and maintain oral health.
  • Some of the procedures include but are not limited to fillings, extractions, dental cleanings, cosmetic
  • treatments, dental restorations such as crowns and bridges, root canals, dentures, teeth whitening,
  • veneers, and dental implant placements.
  • Ensure that all procedures are performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with established dental
  • standards.
  • Referral of complex procedures to dental specialists and collaboration with medical specialists
  • in medically compromised patients.
  • Embrace Gilgil Specialist Hospital’s standards and treatment protocols by going above and beyond to
  • ensure compliance with the set minimum standards of ensuring quality, affordable, and accessible health
  • care services.
Treatment Planning
  • Assess the patient’s dental health and formulate treatment plans based on the diagnosis and the
  • patient’s examination.
  • Recommend procedures such as fillings, extractions, root canals, periodontal treatments, or cosmetic
  • dentistry procedures like teeth whitening.
Dental Consultation
  • Interact with patients to understand their dental concerns, perform examinations, and evaluate their
  • overall oral health.
  • Inquire about symptoms, medical history, and conduct X-rays or other diagnostic tests as required.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, explaining treatment options, procedures, and expected
  • outcomes.
  • Address patient concerns and answer questions related to oral health and treatment plans.
  • Discuss treatment costs, payment plans, and answer questions related to dental procedures.
  • Infection Control
  • Adhere to strict infection control protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment and
  • compliance with Gilgil Specialist Hospital policies and standards.
  • Ensure proper sterilization of dental instruments and equipment, as well as compliance with hygiene practices.
Records and Documentation
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of patient consultations, examinations, treatments performed,
  • and prescribed medications. These records are crucial for follow-up visits and ensuring compliance
  • with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with the clinic administrative staff such as the receptionist for billing and insurance
  • purposes.
Quality Assurance
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality dental care by following established Gilgil Specialist Hospital clinical
  • protocols and standards.
  • Monitor treatment outcomes, patient satisfaction, and continually seek ways to improve the quality of
  • care provided.
  • Abide by ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements related to dental practice, including patient
  • confidentiality, informed consent, and adherence to professional codes of conduct.
  • Collaboration
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals within Gilgil Specialist Hospital, such as physicians,
  • specialists, or dental hygienists, to provide comprehensive patient care.
  • Consult with colleagues on complex cases and refer patients to specialists for advanced treatment, if
  • necessary.
People Management and Leadership
  • Supervise, direct, and coordinate the activities of staff in the dental department, ensuring that nursing
  • care is delivered effectively and efficiently.
  • Liaise with the Facility Administrator or Medical Officer in charge to ensure adequate staffing levels and
  • address shift coverage as needed.
  • Train and mentor, the new staff and dental assistants.
Academic and Professional Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in dental surgery (BDS)
  • Certificate in Basic Life Support
  • Registered and with a Valid License from Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC)
  • Copy of national identification document(ID/Passport)

    Experience
  • At least one (1) year post-internship experience in either a public or private hospital.

Skills and Competencies
  • Proficiency in performing common dental procedures and treatments.
  • Proficient in computer applications
  • Strong clinical skills and knowledge of dental hygiene and oral health.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with patients and colleagues effectively.
  • Attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and staying updated with industry advancements.
