Exim Bank is hiring a Systems Administrator to administer and maintain the Bank’s IT infrastructure, including servers, storage, backups, and virtualization systems, ensuring reliability and security. The role involves administering Active Directory, user access, and email systems, while implementing security controls and supporting disaster recovery processes. It aims to ensure stable system performance, compliance with Bank’s IT standards, and continuous improvement of IT operations.

REPORTS TO:                        MANAGER NETWORK & INFRASTRACTURE.

DUTY STATION:                    HEAD OFFICE.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administer and maintain servers, virtualization, storage, and backup systems to ensure optimal performance, high availability, and data integrity across all environments. Regularly perform system upgrades, capacity planning, and resource optimization to support the Bank’s growth and efficiency.

Manage Active Directory, email systems, and user access rights by implementing structured policies and permissions that promote secure and efficient identity and access management across all departments and systems.

Provide comprehensive OS-level support for all systems and applications, ensuring stability, compatibility, and timely updates across Windows and Linux environments. This includes patch management, kernel updates, and system configuration optimization.

Implement, monitor, and continuously improve IT security controls, patches, and system hardening measures to protect critical infrastructure from vulnerabilities and cyber threats. Conduct periodic security assessments, log reviews, and compliance checks to ensure ongoing resilience.

Support disaster recovery, data backup, and business continuity processes by maintaining robust recovery procedures, validating backup integrity, and conducting regular DR tests to ensure minimal downtime and rapid restoration in case of system failures or disasters.

Monitor system performance, proactively troubleshoot technical issues, and escalate complex incidents in accordance with service-level agreements (SLAs).

Maintain detailed system documentation, operational procedures, and configuration records, ensuring all IT infrastructure changes are well-documented and compliant with internal and external audit requirements. Provide regular technical and performance reports to management.

Ensure full compliance with Bank of Uganda IT guidelines, audit recommendations, and security standards by aligning all IT operations, policies, and procedures with regulatory frameworks and best practices in information security and governance.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams and vendors to implement technology solutions, upgrades, and integrations that support business objectives and improve overall IT service delivery.

Continuously enhance technical knowledge and stay updated with emerging technologies to recommend innovative solutions that improve infrastructure reliability, scalability, and security.

KEY ATRIBUTES

Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Understanding of IT security and regulatory compliance.

Good communication, teamwork, and documentation abilities.

REQUIREMENTS.

Degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field.

3–5 years’ experience in systems administration (preferably in banking/financial sector).

Certifications in Microsoft (MCSA/MCSE), VMware, or Linux, and knowledge of databases (Oracle/MS SQL), networking, and IT security best practices are a strong advantage.
