Job Description: Speech Therapist

A Speech Therapist (Speech-Language Therapist) is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and treating individuals with speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders. The role involves working with children and/or adults to improve communication abilities, enhance speech clarity, support language development, and assist with feeding or swallowing difficulties.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify speech, language, voice, fluency, and swallowing disorders.

Develop individualized treatment plans based on assessment outcomes.

Provide therapy using evidence-based techniques to improve communication and swallowing skills.

Work with clients one-on-one or in group sessions, depending on needs.

Support children with developmental delays, articulation problems, language disorders, autism spectrum disorder, and hearing impairments.

Assist adults with conditions such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, neurological disorders, or voice strain.

Collaborate with caregivers, teachers, healthcare providers, and multidisciplinary teams to support client progress.

Monitor, document, and report on client progress regularly.

Provide counseling, education, and home programs to families and caregivers.

Maintain accurate clinical records in compliance with professional standards.

Participate in meetings, case conferences, and continuing professional development.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Speech and Language Therapy / Speech Pathology (depending on country requirements).

Registration or licensure with the relevant professional body (if applicable).

Clinical experience working with children and/or adults with communication or swallowing disorders (internships or previous jobs).

Strong knowledge of assessment tools, therapy techniques, and communication strategies.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and documentation skills.

Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

Compassion, patience, and strong problem-solving abilities.
