About the NYOTA Project

The National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) project empowers young people aged 18–29 (up to 35 for PWDs) with critical socio-emotional, digital, and livelihood skills to improve employability and economic resilience. eMobilis is seeking passionate and skilled trainers to deliver the Socio-Emotional Skills Development (SESD) curriculum across target counties.

  • Position: Socio-Emotional Skills Development Trainer
  • Reports To: Lead Trainer / Centre Coordinator
  • Level of Effort: Up to 160 hours per training cycle
  • Start Date: Immediate / Rolling Recruitment

Role Overview

The SESD Trainer will facilitate youth-centered, experiential learning sessions using NYOTA’s approved curriculum. The trainer will deliver socio-emotional, soft skills, business, digital literacy, and life skills modules while fostering an inclusive, safe, and motivating learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

Training Delivery

  • Deliver socio-emotional and life skills modules using approved curriculum and methods.
  • Apply experiential training approaches such as simulations, role plays, case studies, games, and group discussions.
  • Conduct sessions in English, Kiswahili, and relevant local languages (Nakuru, Kericho, Bomet).
  • Integrate gender-sensitive, disability-inclusive, and culturally responsive approaches.
  • Facilitate modules including self-awareness, communication, leadership, digital literacy, financial literacy, climate awareness, and youth employment.

Trainee Support & Engagement.

  • Track and report daily attendance (manual & MIS).
  • Follow up with youth who exhibit low attendance or motivation.
  • Ensure a safe, respectful, and engaging learning environment.
  • Refer trainees for psychosocial support when needed.
  • Allocate time daily for employer/career talks.
  • Participate in at least one CSR/community activity per cycle.

Compliance, Quality Assurance & Reporting

  • Adhere to safeguarding, OHS, GBV, SE, SH, and Trainer’s Code of Conduct.
  • Maintain accurate training records and documentation.
  • Conduct pre- and post-training assessments.
  • Participate in mandatory 5-day TOT and refresher training.
  • Support quality checks, spot checks, and feedback sessions.
  • Contribute to curriculum improvement and preparation of final reports.

Administrative Duties

  • Ensure training venues are set up appropriately.
  • Assist with printing and distributing training manuals.
  • Safeguard training equipment and materials.
  • Support logistics and graduation ceremony planning.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum Diploma in Education, Community Development, Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Development Studies, or related fields.
  • At least 3 years of experience delivering socio-emotional, life skills, or soft skills training.
  • Proven experience using participatory and experiential learning methodologies.
  • Prior experience working with youth in community-based settings.

Added Advantage:

  • TOT certification, coaching, counseling, digital literacy, or business skills training.
  • Experience working with vulnerable youth, refugees, or marginalized communities.

Key Competencies:

  • Strong facilitation, communication, and mentorship skills.
  • Ability to engage, motivate, and inspire diverse groups of youth.
  • Excellent documentation, reporting, and organizational skills.
  • Cultural competence and commitment to inclusivity and safeguarding.
  • Proficiency in English and Kiswahili; local language ability is essential.

Performance Indicators:

  • High trainee attendance, completion, and retention rates.
  • Quality and consistency of curriculum delivery.
  • Positive feedback from trainees and supervisors.
  • Timely and accurate training documentation.
  • Full adherence to safeguarding and conduct standards.
