Description
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Depression Counsellor to support adults struggling with depression. This role involves working closely with clients to help them understand their condition, develop coping strategies, and improve their overall mental well-being. The ideal candidate will be empathetic, skilled in evidence-based therapeutic approaches, and committed to helping individuals navigate the emotional and psychological challenges of depression.
Responsibilities of a Depression Counsellor (Adults)
Conduct Comprehensive Assessments
Evaluate clients’ mental health status, emotional functioning, and history of depression.
Use screening tools and diagnostic interviews to identify the severity and type of depression.
Develop and Implement Treatment Plans
Create personalized, goal-oriented treatment plans in collaboration with clients.
Adjust treatment approaches based on client progress and feedback.
Provide Individual Counselling
Deliver evidence-based therapeutic interventions (e.g., CBT, DBT, ACT) tailored to adult clients with depression.
Help clients identify and challenge negative thought patterns and develop healthy coping mechanisms.
Facilitate Group Therapy (if applicable)
Lead support or psychoeducational groups focused on depression management, self-esteem, or emotional regulation.
Monitor Progress and Maintain Records
Track client progress through regular sessions and standardized tools.
Maintain accurate, confidential case notes and documentation according to ethical standards.
Crisis Intervention
Assess risk and provide immediate support to clients experiencing acute depressive episodes or suicidal ideation.
Collaborate with emergency services or other professionals when necessary.
Collaborate with Other Professionals
Work with psychiatrists, general practitioners, social workers, or family members to ensure comprehensive care.
Refer clients to other services as needed (e.g., medication evaluation, support groups).
Educate and Empower Clients
Provide information about depression, treatment options, and relapse prevention strategies.
Encourage self-care, lifestyle changes, and personal growth.
Maintain Ethical and Professional Standards
Adhere to codes of ethics, licensing regulations, and confidentiality laws.
Engage in supervision and continuing professional development.
Promote a Safe and Supportive Environment:
Foster a non-judgmental space where clients feel heard, validated, and supported throughout their recovery journey.
